NOTES FROM NATALIE: Swearing In Ceremony

January 2nd, 2019

Today marked my first day as Representative for the First Franklin District. I am deeply grateful to the people of the 19 communities spanning the district for giving me the opportunity to serve you. It was an emotional yet powerful day.

After finding my parking spot and making it through security, I had plenty of time to meet up with many of my Class of 2019 classmates for a quick bite to eat prior to the Democratic Caucus. I am thankful Reps. Peake and Vega took me under their wings to ensure that I arrived in the right room at the right time for Democratic Caucus. Opening the door to to the cacophony of Democratic colleagues reuniting with one another was exhilarating.

From there, I joined my children and ushered them onto the floor where I found that I had been seated in Seat 53. This was the same seat held by the Honorable Steve Kulik, the Honorable Jay Healy and his father before him. Being the first woman to sit in this seat quite literally overwhelmed me. I am so thankful for the leadership and guidance of my predecessors and will no doubt lean on them as I take on this new role.

A number of procedural measures followed before we took the oath of office - a solemn vow that moved me deeply when thinking of all of those who have gone before me. Thankfully, my oldest son was on hand to snap a few photos.

I look forward to working with Speaker DeLeo, Senate President Spilka and Governor Baker’s team to address matters of importance to the First Franklin District including infrastructure (broadband, roadways and bridges), Chapter 70 reform, access to healthcare and turning back climate change.

There is much to be done in the weeks ahead. Bills are due at 4:59 pm on January 18th. I am finalizing the bills I plan to submit and am anxious to get to work alongside my colleagues in “the bullpen". I promise to keep you updated in every way that I can.

I have included photos of our unforgettable day below and welcome you to be in touch with me at My phone number is 617-722-2425. Alternatively, you can email me at or reach me on twitter, facebook or instagram at BlaisForMA.

Thank you all for your support. I promise to work hard every day to represent the needs of the First Franklin District!
